Life isn’t that bad, yet every day seems less purposeful.
When anxiety shows up, it’s our body’s way of telling us something isn’t working anymore. And it’s hard to know what to do next when nothing you’ve tried has been effective.
When we have an urge to change and you’re brave enough to seek help, it can feel uncomfortable and scary.
But I’m here to help you decide. I’m here to start you on your journey toward the change you desire.
Therapy can be challenging, but doing it online makes it easier.
Most clients are stepping outside their comfort zone. Expressing your fears and desires to someone you have met through a computer can feel uncomfortable.
But the ability to meet in the comfort of your own space makes the experience feel safer and enjoyable.
Online counseling allows us to meet virtually through a secure, HIPPA-compliant platform that protects your information. It’s simple: I send a link to you via email or a text message, and you just click to join.
You can access the platform through various electronic devices, such as a smartphone, tablet, computer, or laptop. It’s best if you’re in a private room or a setting so that you feel comfortable expressing yourself (that’s how to make the most of our session). It’s up to you whether you would like to see each other through the cameras on our devices.
Online counseling can be as effective as traditional in-person therapy.
I have worked with clients both in-person and through virtual sessions. What I have found is that clients report feeling more comfortable sharing in a space that is comfortable for them.
They also note that convenience is a tremendous benefit. Because you can do therapy anywhere, you don’t have to travel to an office, worry about parking, fight traffic, or schedule a sitter. It also saves time and increases flexibility in your schedule to enjoy the things you love.
Our sessions together are something my clients look forward to… with their favorite coffee on their favorite couch. They tend to open up more, become more intimate, and share their vulnerabilities and achievements. If it helps you to open up, you’re welcome to log into the session with a nickname.
Compared to in-person therapy, clients have also said they have less stress about bumping into someone they know waiting in the lobby.
One thing that an in-person setting affords me is the ability to see your entire body and better respond to your body language. But this is possible in the online environment, too. For example, when you’re speaking about things that might be distressful to you, I will watch your facial expressions and listen to the tone of voice to pick up on the same signals I would have in a real-life setting.
Note: Although it is safe to practice, online counseling may not be appropriate for clients who are suicidal or in need of extreme crisis intervention.
