Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
We’ve answered the most common questions about therapy we receive from clients across Illinois—including everything from session logistics to how therapy actually works. If your question isn’t listed here, feel free to reach out.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Aetna, and United Healthcare insurance.
If you would like to use a different insurance not stated above, then we are able to provide you with a monthly receipt called a “Superbill” and you can submit this to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement.
We recommend calling your insurance provider directly and checking with them to confirm if you have “Out Of Network” benefits. Otherwise you can choose to see your therapist privately and not involve your insurance at all. See why many clients choose this option below.
Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?
Not at all. Many clients begin therapy just knowing something feels off. Whether or not you meet criteria for a formal diagnosis, you’re welcome here—and your experiences matter.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain, therapy can help. We support clients through a range of experiences, like trauma, burnout, relationship struggles, postpartum transitions, and more. You don’t need a diagnosis to benefit from support.
Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?
What types of therapy do you provide?
We offer individual counseling for adults, teens, and children, as well as trauma therapy, CBT, mindfulness-based techniques, and therapy for anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
What times are you available?

What is the length of your sessions?
We offer 30-minute and 50-minute sessions.
What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?
It’s completely understandable to feel hesitant if past therapy didn’t feel helpful or like the right fit. At PRESENT, we believe that therapy works best when it feels safe, supportive, and truly collaborative. Our focus is on creating a space where you feel seen, heard, and empowered. Together, we’ll explore what didn’t work before and find an approach that genuinely supports your growth and healing.
What is trauma-informed therapy?
Trauma-informed therapy is an approach that recognizes the impact of trauma on your mind and body. At PRESENT Counseling, while we aren’t trauma-focused specialists, we are trauma-informed and prioritize emotional safety, collaboration, and choice so you feel empowered—not retraumatized—throughout the therapeutic process.

No Surprises Act and Good Faith Estimate
Effective January 1, 2022, health care providers are required to inform self-pay and uninsured individuals of their right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges. The No Surprises Act applies specifically to those individuals who do not have insurance or who do not intend to use their insurance. The purpose of the law, “No Surprises Act”, is to protect self-pay/uninsured individuals from unanticipated and expensive bills for out-of-network services.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your treatment will cost.
- You have the right to receive the Good Faith Estimate at least one (1) business day before your first scheduled appointment.
- You have the right to dispute the bill if your costs are $400 or more over your Good Faith Estimate.
- Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
